A distressing incident unfolded in a Tennessee home recently as a mother faced accusations of child endangerment after her two young children, aged 2 and 4, consumed her THC-infused gummies. The events that transpired led to the children being hospitalised, shining a light on the importance of responsible consumption and keeping such products out of reach of minors.
The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office received a concerning call on November 28th from a woman reporting that her two toddlers had ingested an unknown quantity of her THCA gummies. The situation escalated quickly, with the children becoming unresponsive when deputies arrived at the scene. It was later revealed that the gummies were stored within reach of the children in the mother’s bathroom.

The mother, identified as Candice Hickson, aged 43, was subsequently arrested and booked into the Gibson County jail on November 30th in connection with the incident. Authorities promptly responded to the call at the 300 block of Trenton Highway, indicating the serious nature of the situation regarding the children’s consumption of the THC products.
Upon further investigation, it was confirmed that the children, both aged 2 and 4, were rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for essential treatment. Thankfully, they were discharged within 48 hours following the incident, but the repercussions of the mother’s actions continued to unfold with legal proceedings initiated against her.
Hickson now faces charges of child abuse/neglect/endangerment, as per records reviewed by PEOPLE. An important development in the case revealed that the children were placed under the care of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services after their mother tested positive for methamphetamine in a drug screening following the incident.

The District Attorney General, Frederick H. Agee, 28th Judicial District, expressed a commitment to pursuing justice in the case while also highlighting the need to address addiction issues to ensure the wellbeing of both the mother and her children. The case is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on December 16th, signalling a legal process that will further unfold in the coming days.
This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible storage and consumption of products containing THC, especially in households with young children. As the legal process continues, it is hoped that measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents and to provide a safe environment for the children affected by the actions of those entrusted with their care.
The well-being of children should always be a top priority, and instances such as this highlight the need for vigilance and caution when it comes to substances that could pose a risk to their safety. The legal repercussions faced by the mother in this case underscore the seriousness of the situation and the need for accountability in ensuring the welfare of vulnerable individuals.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of this incident, it stands as a sobering reminder of the potential dangers that can arise from the misuse or mishandling of substances such as THC products. Moving forward, it is crucial for all individuals to take proactive steps to prevent similar occurrences and to prioritise the safety and well-being of those who are most at risk in our society.
