A heartwarming story has emerged about a father’s extraordinary efforts to ensure his daughters have comfortable living spaces without the burden of sky-high rent in New York City. Mr. Jamal Khadar, a 61-year-old architect, contractor, and the owner of Khatraco LLC, embarked on an ambitious project to create dream apartments for his daughters, Jameelah and Hameedah, right in their childhood home.

The Khadar sisters, Jameelah and Hameedah, ventured to New York City after completing their college education, seeking new opportunities and independence. However, the reality of exorbitant rent prices quickly set in, with Jameelah paying $2,200 a month for a shared apartment and Hameedah shelling out $2,800 for a studio. Shocked by the amount his daughters were spending on rent, Mr. Khadar took it upon himself to find a solution that would offer them both comfort and financial relief.

With determination and love for his daughters driving him forward, Mr. Khadar initiated a substantial renovation project on their family home in Potomac, Maryland in early 2025. His vision was to convert the basement into a luxurious suite for Jameelah and construct a separate addition to the house for the privacy-seeking Hameedah.
In October 2025, both Jameelah and Hameedah made the decision to move back home while the renovations were ongoing, temporarily residing in their childhood bedrooms with their younger sister, Memounah. The basement renovation for Jameelah involved custom-built features like closets, heated floors, and a meticulously designed marble bathroom, reflecting Jameelah’s keen interest in interior design and design aesthetics.
Moreover, the basement transformation included a six-seat movie theatre and a gym, making it a space of luxury and comfort for Jameelah. The investment made by their father, approximately $40,000, is not only a testament to his love for his daughters but also a practical solution that equates to savings equivalent to 18 months’ worth of New York City rent.
On the other hand, Hameedah’s private “apartment,” with its own entrance and garage, offers her a self-contained living space with a kitchenette, bathroom, bedroom, closet, and lounge. Built from scratch, this custom space is estimated to cost close to $60,000 but will save Hameedah the equivalent of 21 months of rent in the city.
The Khadar family, including their youngest sister Memounah, is excited about the new living arrangements and the financial freedom it provides the sisters. With the money saved on rent, all three sisters can now focus on their future plans, including the dream of owning their own homes one day.
Mr. Khadar expressed his joy at having his daughters back under one roof, fulfilling a long-held dream of having his family together. He sees this project as an investment in his daughters’ future and a way to support them in achieving their goals of homeownership.
This heartwarming tale of a father’s love and dedication serves as a reminder of the lengths parents go to for their children’s happiness and wellbeing. It showcases the power of family bonds and the importance of creating a supportive environment where loved ones can thrive and pursue their dreams.
