Elle Fanning recently spoke exclusively to PEOPLE at a premiere for her upcoming movie, “Sentimental Value.” In this new project, she collaborates with her sister Dakota Fanning to bring sisterhood to the big screen. The sisters, who also serve as producers for the film, are set to portray siblings in the adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s novel “The Nightingale.”

The Fanning sisters will immerse themselves in the roles of Isabelle and Vianne, two sisters navigating life during the German occupation of France in World War II. Elle emphasized the importance of infusing their real-life bond into their on-screen characters, stating, “We have to bring a little bit of that [real-life sisterhood].”
This collaboration marks the first time Elle and Dakota are working together both in front of and behind the camera. Elle acknowledges the need to balance their professional dynamic as actors while tapping into their personal connection as siblings. Playing sisters in the film adds an extra layer of complexity to their on-set relationship.
Aside from their on-screen roles, Elle and Dakota are co-producing “The Nightingale” through their production company, Lewellen Pictures. Established in 2021, their company has already been involved in various projects, including “The Great” and the TV adaptation of “Margo’s Got Money Troubles.”
Excitement and nerves accompany the Fanning sisters as they embark on this new collaborative journey. Dakota expressed their mixed emotions, mentioning how they had previously focused on forging independent paths but are now embracing the opportunity to work together. This shift in perspective allows them to explore their individuality within their shared experiences.
During the premiere of “Sentimental Value,” Elle shared insights about another project she and Dakota are involved in – a television adaptation of Paris Hilton’s memoir, “Paris: The Memoir.” While keeping details under wraps, Elle hinted at the project’s quality, leaving fans curious and eager for more updates.
Elle’s bustling schedule also includes her roles in “Predator: Badlands” and the upcoming film “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.” Her versatility as an actress continues to shine through different genres and narratives, captivating audiences worldwide.
As the Fanning sisters prepare to grace the screen together in “The Nightingale,” their bond transcends the roles they portray, reflecting a deep-rooted connection that enhances the authenticity of their on-screen relationship. Fans eagerly anticipate witnessing this unique collaboration between two talented siblings in the world of cinema.
