Simone Ledward-Boseman and Ryan Coogler Honour Chadwick Boseman at Walk of Fame Ceremony

The late Chadwick Boseman was commemorated by his widow Simone Ledward-Boseman, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom co-star Viola Davis during his posthumous Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony. Ledward-Boseman, who shared a romantic bond with the actor from 2015 until his passing and married him before his demise, graciously accepted the honour on his behalf on Thursday, November 20.

As she took to the podium, Ledward-Boseman expressed, “In life, Chad was more than an actor, or even an artist. He was a spiritual teacher, fortified by a family and close friends that kept him grounded in faith; a team that believed in him, protected him and fought for him. Colleagues that trusted his vision, that lifted him up and forged a real brotherhood.” She further added, “Chad, today we recognise a lifetime of artistry. We recognise your skill and your devotion, and we cement your legacy as a hero and an icon. You lived with honour, and you walked with truth.”
The celebrated director, Coogler, delved into his emotional tribute, reminiscing Boseman as “an incredibly humble teacher” and highlighted the actor’s generosity throughout his career. Coogler shared anecdotes of Boseman’s commitment, including attending every audition and callback for Black Panther and being exceptionally giving with his time on set despite undergoing cancer treatment.
Joining in to honour Boseman were not only Ledward-Boseman and Coogler but also Viola Davis, Boseman’s brothers Kevin and Derrick, co-stars Michael B. Jordan and Letitia Wright, as well as Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger. Boseman’s journey to stardom was highlighted, from his iconic roles as Jackie Robinson and James Brown to portraying Marvel’s fictional Wakandan King T’Challa in Black Panther, a role that left a lasting impact on audiences worldwide.
