A young superyacht chef, Flinn Sessions, tragically lost his life due to drowning at the age of 22. The circumstances surrounding his untimely death were recently confirmed by a coroner on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Sessions, who worked as a head chef on the Atlantico yacht in the south of France, met with a fatal accident on June 9, 2023. The CCTV footage captured him falling off the yacht while it was docked in France, where he had been employed for two months. His death was attributed to drowning, as determined by post-mortem examinations conducted in both France and the UK.
During an inquest held on the 22nd of October, Coroner Brendan Allen revealed more details about the events leading up to Sessions’ tragic demise. According to Allen, Sessions had been out socializing with his crewmates that night, visiting several bars and consuming alcohol. The CCTV footage showed Sessions falling into the water at La Ciotat port in Marseilles, near Marseille, France, and swimming towards the back of the yacht where he was later found lifeless.
The coroner concluded that Sessions’ death was a result of an unfortunate accident. He stated that the young chef had consumed a significant amount of alcohol while socializing, leading to the tragic fall into the water. Allen emphasized that there was no indication of any pre-existing health issues or intent to harm himself, confirming the incident as an accident.
Sessions, originally from Wimborne, Dorset, England, was described as a beloved son and a popular figure in his local community. His mother, Michelle Fish, fondly remembers him as a source of love, laughter, and pride to the family. Sessions pursued his passion for cooking, landing a job as a chef after starting out in local pubs. His memory lives on as family and friends gather annually on the beach to light lanterns in his honor, with his mother and brother getting tattoos dedicated to him. He rests in peace beside his late father, who passed away when Sessions was just 8 years old.
