A volunteer firefighter, James Swainston, met his untimely death in an alleged hit-and-run incident in Sydney, Australia. The 31-year-old was fatally struck by a vehicle while riding a motorcycle in the suburb of Marsden Park around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, as reported by the New South Wales Police.

However, authorities were able to arrest a 37-year-old woman in connection to the hit-and-run at a business in Penrith on Tuesday, October 21. She was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, failure to stop and assist after a vehicle impact causing death, and driving a motor vehicle with a disqualified license.

Reports from 7News Australia revealed that the suspect had crossed onto the wrong side of the road, leading to the collision with Swainston. After the crash, her vehicle caught fire and she fled the scene. Sergeant Brett Hobbins expressed gratitude to the individuals who stopped to assist and provided valuable information, descriptions, and dash camera footage to aid the investigation.

Described by his mother, Dawn, as a “caring and loving son,” Swainston was on his way home after assisting someone he cared about when the tragic accident occurred.
