Florida Teen Achieves Perfect SAT Score After 3 Attempts, Shares Future Aspirations

Sergio Attento, a 17-year-old student from Florida, has recently accomplished a remarkable feat by achieving a flawless score on his SAT exam after multiple attempts. In a display of persistence and determination, Sergio finally attained a total score of 1600, the highest achievable mark. Despite his exceptional performance, Sergio humbly admitted, “When I walked out of it, I actually thought that I had gotten a couple questions wrong.”
His journey to success began at MAST Academy at Florida International University (FIU), a renowned public magnet school, where he is currently a senior. Sergio’s initial disbelief at his perfect score soon turned to excitement when he realised his outstanding achievement. Expressing his astonishment, he shared with NBC 6, “I was surprised. When I walked out of it, I actually thought that I had gotten a couple questions wrong.”
Upon learning of his remarkable accomplishment, Sergio promptly informed his parents, who were equally overjoyed by the news. Maria Paula Nuñez Attento, Sergio’s mother, described the moment of celebration, saying, “Immediately, he called us, and was like, ‘I don’t know if this is real.’ We freaked out.”
Undeterred by previous attempts, Sergio took the SAT for the third time in September and finally achieved perfection. Reflecting on his journey, he credited his past experiences with the test and numerous practice exams for preparing him to attain the coveted score. He noted, “By the last one, the mistakes that I was making were no longer things like me not understanding the material, but now it was things that, if you double-check that, you could get it right.”
In addition to his academic pursuits, Sergio is currently enrolled in seven Advanced Placement (AP) courses at his school and has also participated in college classes at FIU’s north campus. Remarkably, upon graduating from high school, Sergio will already possess an associate’s degree, showcasing his dedication to academic excellence.
Looking ahead, Sergio is keen on sharing his knowledge and expertise by tutoring other students for the SATs. Expressing the benefits of being on the teaching end, he remarked, “You are now on the other end, asking it to somebody else. When you’re in that position, you get a better idea of the people writing the questions, what they’re asking of you, what they want out of you.”
When asked about his future aspirations, Sergio revealed his interest in pursuing a career in law, demonstrating his ambition to utilise his skills and knowledge in a meaningful profession. With a bright future ahead of him, Sergio’s remarkable achievement serves as an inspiration to students everywhere, highlighting the value of perseverance and hard work in reaching one’s goals.
