The statue was created by British artist Rayvenn Shaleigha D’Clark, using digital scans of real mothers to accurately showcase postpartum characteristics like stretch marks, scars, and swelling.

She highlighted details such as cracked nipples, veined hands, and the postpartum uterus, aiming to celebrate the natural changes that accompany motherhood. The statue’s placement outside the Lindo Wing holds significance, as it is where royal newborns have been traditionally introduced to the public.

The Lindo Wing has seen generations of royal births, with Princess Kate herself experiencing the public spotlight just hours after giving birth to her first child, Prince George.
