A father in Texas has been arrested on an animal cruelty charge the day after his children were rescued from a pond in a dramatic incident. Domingo Quintana, 61, found himself in trouble with the law following the rescue of his three children from a pond near their home. The charges were unrelated to the incident involving his children.
Quintana was booked into Liberty County Jail following the rescuing of his wife and their three children, aged 15, 11 and 6. The children were found in critical condition by first responders. While two of the children remained in critical condition, the other two were stable. The mother was given immediate medical attention after being pulled out of the water. The father, Domingo Quintana, contacted authorities, reporting that his wife had allegedly given the children NyQuil and possibly alcohol before the incident.

According to reports from Click2Houston, deputies observed malnourished animals on Quintana’s property during their investigation, leading to his arrest on an animal cruelty charge. The investigating deputies found neglected animals, including a cat confined in a non-climate-controlled environment without access to food or water. Additional animals, such as cats, dogs, and chickens, were also found in poor condition by law enforcement officials.
Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Capt. David Meyers shared details of the incident, stating that the children’s rescue was prompted by a distress call received in the early hours of the morning. First responders found the mother and children by the pond, with the mother and the 11-year-old child in critical condition. Meyers further mentioned that the 15-year-old child was conscious and able to communicate at the hospital, despite the traumatic experience involving her family.
It was emphasised by official sources that no charges have been filed in connection with the children near-drowning incident at this point. Multiple news outlets reported that Quintana was cooperative with law enforcement and called 911 for help. All three children have been taken into the custody of Child Protective Services and will be placed in foster care upon their release from the hospital.
The investigation remains active, with law enforcement officials continuing to collect evidence. The father, Domingo Quintana, remains in custody on the animal cruelty charge pending further legal proceedings. More information is expected to emerge as the investigation progresses, shedding light on the circumstances of both the children’s near-drowning and the animal cruelty allegations against the father. The community awaits further updates on this unfolding and distressing saga.
