The popular TV series “Schmigadoon” is making its way to the Broadway stage. The musical adaptation of the Universal Television/Apple Original series is set for a limited engagement this spring. Preview performances will kick off on April 4, 2026, at the Nederlander Theatre in New York City, with the grand opening night scheduled for Monday, April 20. The run is planned to conclude on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026.
Penned by Cinco Paul, known for his work on hits like “Despicable Me” and “The Secret Life of Pets,” the Broadway production boasts an Emmy-winning score. The project is produced by the renowned Lorne Michaels from “Saturday Night Live” and other talented individuals. Michaels expresses his excitement, stating, “Schmigadoon! is a love letter to the Golden Age of movie musicals. It’s a little bit nostalgic and a lot of fun. We’re very excited to bring it to Broadway.”

Similar to the TV series starring Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key, the musical plot revolves around New York doctors Josh and Melissa. The couple embarks on a romantic getaway but unexpectedly finds themselves in Schmigadoon, an enchanted town where life is a musical extravaganza. To break free, they must discover true love, whether it be with each other or someone new. The storyline pays homage to classic mid-century musicals like “Brigadoon,” “Oklahoma!” and “The Music Man” but with a contemporary comedic twist.
The iconic original songs by Paul, which will be further developed for the stage adaptation, pay homage to the musical legacy of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, and other legends of the Golden Age. Guest appearances in the series included Broadway stars Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ariana DeBose, Jane Krakowski, and Aaron Tveit.
The stage version of “Schmigadoon” premiered at the Kennedy Center in January to rave reviews. Further details regarding casting and additional creative team members are yet to be announced, building anticipation among theatre enthusiasts.

This transition from screen to stage follows the recent Broadway adaptation of the beloved NBC series “Smash,” which depicted the production of a fictitious Marilyn Monroe bio-musical called “Bombshell.” While the NBC series adaptation had its run, it has since concluded.
Tickets for the Broadway production of “Schmigadoon” will be available to the public starting at 10 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Oct. 15. An exclusive 24-hour presale for fans will commence on Monday, Oct. 14, at schmigadoonbroadway.com.
The theatrical world eagerly awaits the arrival of “Schmigadoon” on Broadway, promising audiences a delightful blend of nostalgia, romance, and musical extravaganza. Stay tuned for more updates as the production gains momentum and prepares to grace the renowned Broadway stage with its unique charm and whimsical narrative.
