New information has surfaced about the unfortunate discovery of two hunters found deceased in Southern Colorado. A coroner has disclosed fresh insights regarding the bodies believed to be those of missing companions Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko.

The pair, both seasoned hunters, were located lifeless nearly a week after vanishing on a hunting expedition in the Rio Grande National Forest in Southern Colorado. The Conejos County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the recovery of two unidentified men from the Rio de Los Pinos Trailhead around 11 a.m. local time after extensive search efforts. Although the cause of death is still under investigation and the bodies remain to be officially identified, significant details have emerged in the case.
According to Conejos County Coroner Richard Martin, there were no apparent signs of the cause of death or any visible trauma on the bodies. He further mentioned that no initial indications of foul play were detected. Any signs of trauma could have escalated the investigation to a federal level since the bodies were found on federal land. Autopsies for Porter and Stasko, both 25 years old, are scheduled at the El Paso County Coroner’s Office on Monday, Sept. 22.
Porter and Stasko had ventured to the area for elk hunting purposes. Their last known contact was made when Porter shared his location with his fiancée, Bridget Murphy, on Thursday, Sept. 11. Murphy mentioned that Porter had been providing regular updates to her and his family until that final exchange. Two days later, on Sept. 13, deputies arrived at the Rio De Los Pinos Trailhead upon reports of the men being overdue. Although their camping gear and backpacks were found in the vehicle, the hunters were nowhere to be found.
A large-scale search operation was launched, engaging air teams, county and state crews on the ground, as well as canine units, drones, and local volunteers. As the search intensified, Murphy, with hopes of finding her fiancé and with their wedding just months away, emphasized that both men were adept outdoorsmen. However, uncertainties prevailed regarding the circumstances leading to their demise, including their mental state, possible disorientation, panic, or hypothermia.
Following Murphy’s plea for assistance, the bodies were eventually located. Porter’s aunt, Lynne Runkle, conveyed the heartbreaking news in an update on the GoFundMe page established to support the search efforts. She requested thoughts and prayers for the families of Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko during this trying time.
The community continues to mourn the loss of the two hunters. The mysterious circumstances surrounding their deaths have left many questions unanswered. The sudden turn of events has brought shock and sadness to their loved ones, who are now grappling with the devastating reality of their tragic end.
As investigations into the cause of death continue, the families and friends of Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko seek closure and justice. The community stands together in solidarity, offering support and comfort during this difficult period. The cherished memories of the two hunters will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
