Savannah Guthrie, the well-known journalist, recently shared an unexpected activity she indulged in while her children were away at summer camp. Guthrie, who is a mother to daughter Vale and son Charley with her husband Michael Feldman, opened up about their experience during a segment on ‘Today with Jenna & Friends’.

During the episode aired on September 1, Guthrie joined Jenna Bush Hager to discuss how her children, 11-year-old Vale and 8-year-old Charley, had spent three weeks at sleep-away camp, giving her a rare opportunity for some much-needed rest. She revealed, “Both of our kids went to sleep-away camp for three weeks,” highlighting the unusual break in her parenting routine.

The absence of her children allowed Guthrie and her husband to enjoy activities they hadn’t been able to do with their kids around the house. She shared that initially, they debated going out for dinners and other engagements, but ultimately found themselves enjoying a simpler pleasure. Guthrie remarked, “It was amazing and so quiet. At first, we were like, ‘Should we go out to dinner? Should we do this or that?’ And we did that for a couple of days. And then we started getting in bed at 6:30 to watch TV and read.”
Reflecting on the peaceful time they had together, Guthrie reminisced about their early dating days when they had the freedom to decide their activities spontaneously. The break from parental responsibilities allowed them to relax and unwind, creating a reminiscent atmosphere of their carefree past.
Although Guthrie and her husband cherished their quiet days without the kids, they didn’t miss out on celebrating their daughter’s birthday. On August 13, Guthrie took to Instagram to share adorable snapshots of Vale on her 11th birthday, including a heartfelt message celebrating her daughter’s special day. Despite the distance, Guthrie found ways to stay connected and mark important family occasions.
In a separate event, Guthrie involved her children in her work, showcasing a heartwarming moment when they met Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts on the set of ‘Today’. The video shared on Instagram captured the excitement of the children wearing Hurts’ jersey as they greeted the football star, with Guthrie proudly introducing her kids. The family-oriented gesture highlighted Guthrie’s ability to balance her professional and personal life seamlessly.
As Guthrie reflected on her summer experiences, she encapsulated the joy of parenting and the value of carving out time for oneself amidst busy schedules. Her candid sharing of personal moments resonates with many parents, serving as a reminder to appreciate the little moments of peace and connection with loved ones. Guthrie’s story offers a glimpse into the delicate balance of managing work, family, and self-care, showcasing the importance of creating space for rest and rejuvenation in the midst of daily responsibilities.
