The 63-year-old actress and singer revealed that her appreciation for Ariel has only grown stronger over the years. So it still just kind of amazes me that I have the privilege to be this character.”
Benson continued to share her awe at the impact of Ariel on younger generations. She stated, “It still just blows me away, especially when I meet kids, meet the younger generation, and what the character means to them. It’s such a gift.”
‘The Little Mermaid’ was a groundbreaking success for Disney, marking the beginning of a golden era of animated hits for the studio. Benson mentioned that over the years, she has formed close friendships with other iconic Disney princesses like Susan Egan, the voice behind Megara in Disney’s Hercules, and Paige O’Hara, who voiced Belle in the original Beauty and the Beast.
Reflecting on her favorite princess-related memory, Benson recalled a magical moment backstage during an event for the animated movie Ralph Breaks the Internet, where multiple Disney princesses came together in a single scene. The experience of seeing all the characters on screen was truly special for Benson and her fellow princesses.
Apart from her Disney legacy, Benson hopes to be remembered for her commitment to serving others. She emphasized the importance of loving and supporting others, stating, “I think that’s really important to me. How to love and serve others. Think less about myself and more about others, which is challenging for all of us.”
As she mingled with her fellow Disney actresses at the event, including Egan, O’Hara, and Ginnifer Goodwin, who portrayed Snow White in ‘Once Upon a Time’, Benson highlighted the significance of cherishing these relationships and uplifting one another.
