“Dexter: Resurrection” Shocks Fans by Killing Off Beloved Character
In a jaw-dropping twist, the latest episode of “Dexter: Resurrection” has left fans in disbelief as a longtime character met their demise. The episode, which aired on August 29, saw Angel Batista (played by David Zayas), a character who had been a part of the show since its inception nearly two decades ago, bid a heartbreaking farewell.
Batista, a former Miami police chief, found himself face-to-face with the Bay Harbor Butcher, played by Michael C. Hall, for one final time before meeting his tragic end at the hands of Leon Prater, portrayed by Peter Dinklage. Despite Dexter’s hesitations, Prater ultimately made the devastating decision to end Batista’s life, leaving viewers stunned.
Zayas, the actor behind the beloved character, revealed that he had known about his character’s fate since the show’s revival was in the works. He shared his initial reaction upon learning about Batista’s demise, stating, “When they called me, they said, ‘We’re thinking of bringing Dexter back in a resurrection,’ and then explained the storyline of the season.” Zayas continued, “My first thought was, ‘Wow, that’s great TV,’ and it is. It’s great for the story, but it’s also bittersweet in that you want to continue telling this story.”
Reflecting on his character’s journey over the show’s 20-year run, Zayas expressed pride in portraying Batista, stating, “This is the best job I’ve ever had as an actor because I was able to develop Ángel from A to Z. I’m very grateful for that opportunity.” Despite the heartbreaking end to Batista’s storyline, Zayas remains hopeful about the future, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of the show’s narrative.
With the return of deceased characters being a common occurrence in the Dexter universe, Zayas remains open to the possibility of future appearances. He shared, “You don’t have to be alive to be on the show. So there’s always that window that keeps me with a positive outlook, because I would be a part of the Dexter universe in any capacity.”
