Michigan Man Allegedly Shoots Ex-Wife at Hospital After Protective Order Request
In a tragic turn of events, a Michigan man has been accused of fatally shooting his ex-wife at the hospital where she worked, just one month after she sought a protective order against him. Mario Green, 53, was apprehended by the Detroit Police Department on August 23, a day after the incident took place at Henry Ford Hospital.
Reports from local outlets disclosed that Latricia Green had obtained a personal protection order against her ex-husband in July, but unfortunately, it was never served. Mario Green reportedly entered the basement of the Detroit hospital on August 22, while Latricia was on duty. An argument ensued between the two, leading Mario to brandish a firearm and shoot Latricia multiple times before fleeing the scene, the Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison confirmed.
Authorities are investigating how Mario managed to gain access to restricted areas of the hospital during the incident, which prompted a temporary lockdown. Surveillance footage captured Mario leaving the hospital premises at 9:55 a.m. driving away in a 2011 white Dodge Charger. Later in the day, Detroit police discovered his abandoned vehicle, leading to his arrest at around 3 a.m on August 23.
Expressing their grief over the loss of their colleague, Henry Ford Hospital released a statement extending condolences to Latricia’s family and colleagues, emphasizing their commitment to supporting affected staff members and ensuring the safety of all individuals at the hospital.
Reports indicate that Latricia had previously tried to file for a protection order against her ex-husband following a history of concerning behaviour. Despite a first attempt being denied by a Wayne County Circuit Court judge on June 13, a subsequent request was granted on July 21 due to escalating threats and incidents involving Mario. However, the protective order was never served to Mario, as confirmed by Detroit Police Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald.
Friends and family members of Latricia have expressed shock and heartache at her untimely death, recounting her previous distress and unsuccessful attempts to seek help through legal channels. They remember Latricia as a dedicated employee and a beloved individual within the community.
The devastating outcome of this tragic incident serves as a sombre reminder of the pervasive issue of domestic violence.
