**Parents of Alleged Kidnapped Baby Charged with Murder by Police**
**Rebecca and Jake Haro Arrested in Connection to 7-Month-Old’s Death**
Rebecca and Jake Haro have been taken into custody by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSD) for the murder of their infant son, Emmanuel, as police reveal that the 7-month-old was never kidnapped as previously claimed.
The couple’s arrest came on Friday, Aug. 22, following an intensive investigation into the reported kidnapping of Emmanuel in Riverside County, California. Both Rebecca, 32, and Jake were charged with murder and are currently detained in the Riverside County jail without the option of bail. Authorities have not made any additional arrests or named any other suspects at this time.
Initially, Rebecca had reported Emmanuel missing on Thursday, Aug. 14, alleging that an unknown assailant had attacked her and abducted the infant while they were outside a store. However, after extensive inquiries including interviews, search warrants, and digital evidence analysis, police concluded on Friday, Aug. 22, that the kidnapping never took place.
Sheriff Shannon Dicus emphasised the gravity of the situation, stating, “It is believed Emmanuel is deceased, and the search to recover his remains is ongoing. These arrests mark a significant development, our focus remains on finding Emmanuel.”
Rebecca’s account of the events leading to Emmanuel’s disappearance included a visit to a local park with their three children for their son’s football practice, followed by a stop at a Big 5 Sporting Goods store to purchase a mouthguard. According to KTLA, she claimed that while she was changing Emmanuel in the car park, she was approached by someone, lost consciousness and woke up to find the baby missing.
Over the weekend, authorities noted inconsistencies in Rebecca’s statements, leading to further scrutiny of her narrative. In a statement released on Sunday, Aug. 17, the SBSD revealed that Rebecca ceased cooperation with investigators after being confronted with these discrepancies.
Notably, Jake Haro has a history of legal troubles involving child cruelty. In 2023, he was convicted of willful child cruelty following an incident in which a 10-week-old girl sustained broken bones. He was sentenced to a 180-day work-release program and ordered to attend a child abuser treatment program. Additionally, he was scheduled for a court appearance on a separate charge related to possession of a firearm as a felon.
