New details are emerging about the fatal off-roading accident involving influencer couple Stacey Tourout and Matthew Yeomans. The pair, known for their YouTube channel Toyota World Runners, tragically lost their lives on August 7 in a remote area of the West Kootenay region in British Columbia.
According to Kaslo Search and Rescue Communication Manager Mark Jennings-Bates, Tourout suffered a severe head injury but was still conscious when rescuers found her at the crash site. Despite her initial survival, Tourout passed away later at a local hospital. Yeomans, on the other hand, was ejected from the vehicle during the incident and was found by the rescue team with no vital signs.
Tourout and Yeomans had been documenting their off-roading adventures on their YouTube channel, which boasted over 200,000 subscribers. The couple’s final video was posted on July 31, showcasing their experiences off-roading in Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
The Kaslo Search and Rescue team described the crash site as a backcountry trail with rough terrain. The vehicle had fallen approximately 656 feet down a steep boulder field following the incident. Jennings-Bates highlighted that the location where the crash occurred lacked any surrounding forest that could have potentially stopped the vehicle’s descent.
Upon receiving reports of the accident, Kaslo Search and Rescue deployed multiple ground and air teams to aid in the rescue operation. Due to the challenging terrain, ropes were necessary to reach the victims’ bodies. Tourout’s mother penned a heartfelt tribute on Facebook, expressing the deep loss felt by both families and describing the couple’s tragic end as the conclusion of an incredible love story.
Yeomans had announced their engagement to Tourout in April 2024 during a road trip through the Americas, proposing against the backdrop of South American mountains. The couple’s social media posts leading up to the accident indicated that they were relishing their time exploring Vancouver Island and enjoying the summer season.
The news of Tourout and Yeoman’s passing has sent shockwaves through their followers and the online community. As friends, family, and fans mourn their untimely deaths, the memories of their adventurous spirits and love story will live on in the hearts of many.
Tragedies like this serve as a stark reminder of the risks involved in extreme sports and off-roading activities, underscoring the importance of safety precautions and awareness while engaging in such pursuits. The legacy left behind by Stacey Tourout and Matthew Yeomans will continue to inspire others to cherish each moment and embrace life’s adventures with caution and respect for the unpredictable forces of nature.
