Ashley Biden, daughter of former President Joe Biden and former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, has recently filed for divorce from her husband, Dr. Howard Krein, after 13 years of marriage according to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s report on Monday, August 11. The couple tied the knot on June 2, 2012, following an introduction orchestrated by Ashley’s late brother, Beau Biden.

The circumstances of their first meeting were poignant as Beau was recovering from a stroke back in 2010. During Beau’s hospital stay, Ashley paid him a visit. Coincidentally, her future husband, who was acquainted with Beau, also visited at the same time. The former President Joe Biden recounted the sweet, albeit unusual moment when Ashley checked on her brother and Krein, at the foot of Beau’s bed, jokingly requested to be set up with Ashley.

Despite initially hesitating, Ashley eventually agreed to go on a date with Krein as a favour to her brother. This marked the beginning of their relationship which quickly blossomed. Two years later, the couple exchanged vows in an interfaith Catholic and Jewish ceremony at a Delaware church where Ashley was baptised. The Bidens hosted their wedding reception in their backyard, where then-Vice President Joe Biden was seen, hands-on in ensuring everything went smoothly.

Tragically, Beau Biden’s health took a turn for the worse following his stroke in 2010, which led doctors to discover he had glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Beau underwent treatment, but sadly, he passed away on May 20, 2015, at the age of 46. Despite the heartbreak, Ashley found solace in keeping her brother’s memory alive through her actions, including the launch of her clothing brand Livelihood in 2017, which pays tribute to Beau with its logo design.

Throughout their 15-year relationship, Howard Krein has maintained a low profile, especially during Joe Biden’s tenure as Vice President and later as President. The couple’s decision to keep their personal lives private was evident as Ashley attended official events with the Biden family without Krein by her side. Following Joe Biden’s presidency, Ashley and Krein continued to lead a discreet life until news of their divorce surfaced.

At present, Ashley has refrained from making any public statements about the divorce filing.
