McDonald’s Takes Customers Down Memory Lane with New Adult Happy Meal and Shake
McDonald’s has introduced a new McDonaldland Meal set to launch on August 12, including the brand-new Mt. McDonaldland Shake, which PEOPLE had the opportunity to preview ahead of its official release. The meal, designed to evoke nostalgia for those who grew up on Happy Meals, features a Quarter Pounder with cheese or a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, fries, and the unique Mt. McDonaldland Shake. The meal also comes with collectible tins themed around the chain’s classic characters, such as Ronald McDonald, Grimace, Birdie, Hamburglar, Fry Friends, and even the long-lost Mayor McCheese, a character not seen since 1983.
The packaging for the McDonaldland Meal pays homage to the beloved characters with whimsical illustrations on the food containers and even includes a crossword puzzle with McDonaldland trivia on the bag. Each meal kit includes a colourful box showcasing a map of McDonaldland along with a themed tin of collectibles based on one of the six characters. During the preview, PEOPLE got to unbox the Mayor McCheese tin, which contained a postcard of “Town Hall” designed like a cheeseburger building, a sticker proclaiming “McCheese is my mayor,” and a playful “passport” listing the mayor’s hobbies like playing the cello and tailoring. The nostalgic collectibles harkened back to the joy of finding surprises in Happy Meal toys from childhood birthday celebrations at the fast-food chain.
In addition to the collectible tins, the McDonaldland Meal introduces the Mt. McDonaldland Shake, inspired by the mythical volcano’s blue lava and pink clouds. Described as a “secret concoction,” the shake has a raspberry flavour in its blue base, and a creamy vanilla taste in the pink whipped cream swirls on top. This whimsical treat adds a playful touch to the meal, catering to the inner child in all customers who enjoy McDonald’s offerings.
Apart from the McDonaldland Meal, McDonald’s recently brought back Snack Wraps in two flavours, Spicy and Ranch, providing another dose of nostalgia for customers. Initially launched in the U.S. in 2006, these popular items made a nationwide return on July 10 after being discontinued in 2016. These returning fan favourites show McDonald’s commitment to tapping into customers’ memories and reviving beloved menu items for a limited time.
McDonald’s continues to innovate and surprise its customers with nostalgic offerings that not only satisfy cravings but also evoke fond memories of childhood favourites. The McDonaldland Meal, with its collectible tins and unique shake, provides a delightful experience for customers looking to relive the joy of Happy Meals in a new and exciting way. As the fast-food giant continues to blend the old with the new, it keeps customers coming back for more, eager to see what other surprises and flavours await them on the menu.
