Comedian Pete Davidson recently took to Late Night with Seth Meyers to provide a much-awaited update on the Staten Island ferry he co-owns with fellow Saturday Night Live cast member Colin Jost.

They acquired the decommissioned John F. Kennedy Staten Island ferry in 2022 for $280,000, a deal that made headlines in The New York Times at the time. Alongside Paul Italia, owner of The Stand comedy club, Davidson and Jost ventured into this unique investment.

During his appearance on the late-night talk show, Davidson humorously mentioned, “So we got some updates. It’s still afloat,” indicating their ongoing ownership of the ferry. The comedians initially bought the boat on a whim after being encouraged to bid on it, not anticipating they would emerge as the only bidders.

Since acquiring the ferry, Davidson and Jost have utilised the vessel for various events, including hosting the Tommy Hilfiger New York Fashion Week show last September while it was docked at Pier 17. Excitingly, Davidson hinted at future collaborations and plans for the ferry that are yet to be disclosed.

Meyers, who shared his amusement at the sheer size of the ferry upon his first encounter, highlighted the vastness of the 5,000-seater vessel with four floors. The current focus lies on renovating and utilising one floor, with plans to expand further as opportunities arise.

Jost, known for his conservative spending habits, admitted to PEOPLE that the purchase of the ferry was perhaps his most impulsive decision to date. However, he rationalised the acquisition by likening it to acquiring a 65,000 square feet “building on its side” at a reasonable price per square foot compared to New York real estate.

Despite their full-time commitments, Davidson and Jost have made some progress with renovations on the ferry, aiming to potentially operate it in the future. However, taking the vessel to sea would necessitate a dedicated crew due to operational complexities.
