Man Reportedly Chains Partner to Bed to Prevent Infidelity: Sources
In a shocking turn of events, a man in New South Wales, Australia, has been accused of chaining his partner to their bed in an attempt to stop her from cheating on him. According to reports from Australian newspaper the Daily Telegraph, the woman, whose identity remains confidential, was allegedly restrained by Zane Woodward, a 34-year-old resident of Oak Flats, south of Wollongong.
The victim was reportedly chained using a heavy metal link cuff secured to her right ankle, which was in turn padlocked to the bed frame. Despite the harrowing situation, she was occasionally allowed brief moments of freedom to use the bathroom or have meals, as per details provided by police sources.
This disturbing ordeal is said to have begun around June or July of this year, with Woodward also allegedly confiscating the woman’s phone, wallet, and keys. Furthermore, he purportedly isolated her from her social circle – family, friends, and work contacts. Their relationship is said to have started back in September 2024.
After enduring this torment, the victim managed to escape and seek help by running away from Woodward while they were out together. She subsequently went to Lake Illawarra Police Station to report the domestic violence incident. Following her report, Woodward was arrested at their residence on Esplanade, Oak Flats.
Accusations against Woodward include charges of domestic violence, assault, kidnapping with intent to commit serious offenses, bodily harm, and intimidation. The 32-year-old woman was taken to Shellharbour Hospital for treatment, where injuries consistent with her account were documented, including broken ribs and a fractured eye socket.
In the aftermath of the arrest, Woodward’s lawyer, Matthew Ward, acknowledged the gravity of the allegations his client faced. However, Woodward’s mother, who lived nearby, believed the couple was living harmoniously. It’s noted that Woodward has a history of facing similar accusations in the past.
The suspect appeared in court and was denied bail, with a scheduled return to court on October 8. Authorities are continuing their investigations into the case, with the forthcoming legal proceedings set to shed more light on the situation. The gravity of the charges underscores the need for vigilance against domestic violence and abuse in all forms.
