The report, obtained from the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, stated that the effects of postmortem decomposition made it impossible to rule out multiple possible mechanisms of death for the 34-year-old woman.

Almost two months after she was last seen alive, Gratton’s body was discovered in an alley in Lakewood, Colo., a suburb of Denver, on June 6. Authorities were unable to determine whether she was pushed, fell, or jumped from a window while alive, or was dropped from the window after death.

The search for Gratton began in April after she was last seen near the 4200 block of E. Iliff Avenue. Video footage showed her leaving her residence with a man with whom she had a reported history of consensual sexual relations. They went to his apartment in Lakewood, where another man joined them. The men reported that Gratton used gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) and later vomited before they propped her up on her side and left the apartment.

While Gratton tested positive for substances like THC and methamphetamine, testing for GHB was not possible. Authorities found fractures in her ribs, joint separation, and a neck fracture, but her hands and arms showed no evidence of defensive injuries. The report indicated that her injuries could have been caused by a fall or decomposition.

Gratton’s mother, Cherilynne Gratton-Camis, raised concerns when she did not hear from Jax on Easter and later discovered that a missing persons report had not been filed promptly. After her body was found in June, the LGBTQ+ community came together to remember Jax, a trans woman, at a memorial three days after her death.
