Two climbers are currently recovering after an intense rescue operation took place on Canada’s Yak Peak summit. The climbers were stranded overnight, hanging in their harnesses on a sheer 6500-feet cliff face. According to a press release by North Shore Rescue on Facebook, they were alerted about the stranded climbers at 10:40 p.m. the previous night. One of the climbers had suffered a head injury during a fall. The rescue operation faced challenges as the weather conditions were rapidly deteriorating, making climbing conditions unsafe.

The rescue operation involved the deployment of Talon helicopters and night visitation goggles. However, multiple attempts to reach the climbers were unsuccessful due to the hazardous conditions. The flight was further complicated by clouds and wildfire smoke in the area, making it impossible for the rescue team to reach the stranded climbers.

As a result, the helicopter had to land at Hope Airport in British Columbia, with the crew waiting for improved weather conditions to resume the rescue operation. A new flight crew was assembled at 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 6 and successfully completed the mission. The climber with the head injury was rescued first, followed by their partner.
