Cell phone service remained available to guests onboard, as the ship was near the coast during the power loss. The Constellation, with an occupancy of 2,184 passengers, embarked on its journey from Porto Corsini in Ravenna, Italy, setting sail on July 28 with planned stops in Croatia and Montenegro before concluding in Civitavecchia, the nearest port to Rome, on Aug. 8.

Royal Caribbean Group explained that in situations of a main power loss, ships are equipped with emergency generators for essential functions like communication, emergency lighting, fire detection systems, and more. These generators ensure that crucial operations can continue, even in challenging circumstances.

The incident recalls a distressing scenario seen in a Netflix docuseries titled ‘Trainwreck: Poop Cruise’ which detailed the Carnival Triumph ordeal back in 2013. The ship lost power due to a fire, leaving passengers without basic amenities like lights, air conditioning, refrigeration, and functional toilets for several days, illustrating the importance of backup systems on board.
