Twin sisters, Ava and Addison Apostolopoulos, aged 9, have been lauded for their bravery after saving a 4-year-old girl from drowning in a pool at their grandmother’s apartment complex in Detroit. The incident, which took place on June 27, saw the young girls spring into action and display remarkable courage in the face of danger.

According to reports from the Wixom Police Department and 23ABC News, Ava and Addison noticed the young girl at the bottom of the pool, motionless and in distress. Without hesitation, Ava jumped into the water and swiftly brought the unconscious child to the surface, while Addison quickly fetched goggles to aid in the rescue.
Maintenance worker Cody Boyette also played a crucial role in the rescue operation. After Ava retrieved the girl from the water, Boyette noticed that she was not breathing and had turned blue. Without wasting any time, he administered rescue breaths to revive the child before medical help arrived.
Thanks to the prompt and selfless actions of Ava, Addison, and Boyette, the 4-year-old girl was successfully resuscitated and rushed to the hospital for further treatment. The Police Department praised the trio for their heroic efforts, stating that their quick thinking and bravery averted a potential tragedy.
In recognition of their exceptional courage and presence of mind during the crisis, Ava, Addison, and Boyette were honoured with the Police Department Civilian Citation Award at a special ceremony held during the City of Wixom Council meeting on July 22. The pictures shared by the department show the three individuals proudly holding their well-deserved awards.
The twins’ father, Jason Apostolopoulos, expressed his pride in his daughters, emphasising the importance of being vigilant and proactive in helping others. He highlighted the valuable lesson of always being alert to one’s surroundings and taking immediate action in times of need.
Both Ava and Addison shared their feelings of happiness and fulfillment at having been able to save a life through their courageous actions. Ava expressed her joy at the girl’s survival, wishing her well and hoping she is enjoying life, while Addison reflected on being grateful for being in the right place at the right time to make a difference.
The City of Wixom has commended the twins for their remarkable bravery and honoured them for their extraordinary act of heroism. The Apostolopoulos family, along with the entire community, celebrates the twins’ courageous deed and stands in awe of their selflessness and quick thinking that saved a precious life.
In a world often filled with news of tragedy and despair, stories like this serve as a powerful reminder of the inherent goodness and bravery that exist within individuals, especially young children like Ava and Addison. Their actions remind us all of the importance of staying vigilant, compassionate, and ready to lend a helping hand when it is needed most.
