Prior to being reported missing by their family, the brothers had been playing outside near the edge of the tree line. McLendon explained that as darkness descended, the boys mistakenly ventured further into the woods, eventually realizing they were lost when it became pitch black.

Soon after receiving the report, nearly a hundred resources were mobilized on the ground, including drones, K-9 units, and search and rescue teams. A command center was established in Jenkins Park, prompting a coordinated search effort to commence by 10 p.m.

Utilizing drones and K-9 units, emergency responders scoured the wooded area. Although the dogs eventually lost the scent, their efforts proved invaluable in narrowing down the search area, McLendon noted. The authorities were able to pinpoint a specific location based on the last known scent and footprints in the creek.

Around 1:15 a.m. the following morning, a heat-seeking drone detected the brothers approximately 1,000 meters into the wooded expanse. Authorities found them lying down, unharmed but disoriented. McLendon revealed that the boys had decided to wait for daylight to navigate their way out of the woods after becoming lost in the darkness.

The brothers were swiftly transported to a local hospital for evaluation, where it was determined that they had come through the ordeal unscathed. McLendon expressed the family’s overwhelming joy at the safe recovery of the children, highlighting their relief at being reunited with them.

While emphasizing the importance of outdoor play for children, officials underscored the need for vigilant parental supervision, especially as daylight fades. McLendon encouraged parents to establish clear timelines for their children’s outdoor activities, ensuring their safe return home as darkness approaches.
