A tragic incident has led to the recall of nearly 200,000 toy kitchen sets as a toddler lost his life due to strangulation. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of 192,000 KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens by Backyard Kids, LLC. The Texas-based company voluntarily issued the recall after a dreadful event where a toddler was strangled to death while playing with the product.

Backyard Kids, LLC, has been proactive in ensuring consumer safety by recalling the play kitchens that pose a potential strangulation hazard. The CPSC highlighted the risk these toy sets pose to young children, especially those climbing on the counter or crawling through the openings at the back of the play kitchens. The tragedy that prompted this recall involved a 23-month-old boy who died from asphyxiation in February 2023 after his clothing got caught on one of the hooks of the toy set.

KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchens, originally manufactured by KidKraft, Inc., are designed for children aged 3 years and above. These toy sets, measuring around 44 inches in length and 43 inches in height, were sold online by various retailers, including KidKraft, Amazon, and Walmart. The recalled sets carry the model number 53411, and consumers are urged to check for this number on a sticker located on the back of the product.
In response to the tragic incident and subsequent recall, Backyard Kids, LLC, has committed to providing free replacement hooks for the toy kitchen sets. Consumers who have purchased these sets are advised to stop using them immediately and contact the company to receive the replacement hooks. The safety of children is the top priority for KidKraft, as stated in their message to consumers regarding the recall.
This heartbreaking news serves as a reminder of the importance of product safety and vigilance when it comes to children’s toys. The swift action taken by Backyard Kids, LLC, following the tragic incident underscores the need for rigorous safety standards in the manufacturing and distribution of children’s products. As consumers, it is crucial to stay informed about product recalls and follow the guidelines issued by regulatory authorities to ensure the well-being of our little ones.
