Erin Ko, the 13-year-old victim, was a former student of Colegio San Pedro Nolasco Vitacura in Santiago, Chile, who had moved to the United States with her family the previous year.

Six people were aboard the sailboat when it was struck by a barge near Hibiscus Island around 11 a.m. local time, as reported by the U.S. Coast Guard.
