Actress Katie Stevens recently shared her personal struggles with postpartum depression in an exclusive interview. The former ‘The Bold Type’ star, who welcomed her daughter Rome with husband Paul DiGiovanni in February 2023, opened up about the challenges of balancing motherhood and her career.
Returning to work after becoming a mother was not an easy feat for Stevens. She candidly expressed how “mom guilt is real” and how filming looked different now that she is a mother. Despite the difficulties, she acknowledged the importance of having a solid support system in her husband and family, which allowed her to continue pursuing her professional commitments.

During the filming of her latest project, ‘Providence Falls,’ Stevens had the opportunity to bring her daughter on set. She described the experience as emotional and special, as she cherished the moments of sharing her career with her daughter. However, she also highlighted the struggles of adjusting to the identity shift that comes with motherhood.

Stevens admitted to experiencing postpartum depression, emphasising that it was not about her daughter but rather the challenges of adapting to her new role as a mother. The actress lamented the loss of certain aspects of her pre-motherhood life, such as working and independence, which were temporarily put on hold during her initial stages of motherhood.
Amidst her journey through postpartum depression, Stevens found solace in her role on ‘Providence Falls,’ which provided her with an opportunity to reconnect with her passion for acting. The experience allowed her to reflect on her individuality outside of motherhood and to appreciate the importance of maintaining a sense of self while navigating the responsibilities of being a parent.
As she continues to navigate the joys and difficulties of motherhood, Stevens acknowledges that her daughter is her greatest accomplishment. She strongly believes in the significance of preserving her individuality while embracing the role of a mother, emphasising the importance of self-care and personal fulfilment alongside parenting responsibilities.
Part 1 of ‘Providence Falls’ is set to premiere on August 2 at 8 p.m. ET on the Hallmark Channel, with subsequent parts airing on August 9 and August 16. Stevens’ candid reflection on her journey through postpartum depression serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by many mothers and the importance of seeking support and prioritising self-care during the transformative journey of motherhood.
