Nevers, who had a pre-existing medical condition that left him partially paralyzed on his left side, was unable to call for help as his phone was submerged underwater.

Upon receiving the distress call, STPSO deployed Marine Division members Sgt. Chuck White and Deputy John Hrabley to locate the missing crabber. With information provided by Nevers’ family regarding his typical route, White and Hrabley diligently searched the marsh and eventually found him alongside his sunken boat, with his phone out of reach and the motor non-functional.

The crabber’s medical condition further complicated the rescue operation as he was unable to move freely in the marshy terrain. Despite the challenges, White and Hrabley managed to safely extract Nevers from the situation. He was promptly assessed by medical personnel and reunited with his family later that evening.
