Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Absence from Photo with Jennifer Love Hewitt explained
Sarah Michelle Gellar has provided an explanation for her absence in a photo taken with Jennifer Love Hewitt at the premiere of “I Know What You Did Last Summer”. The two actors, who worked together on the original 1997 film alongside Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillippe, had fans speculating after Gellar did not pose for photos with Hewitt, who was featuring in the latest sequel of the horror franchise.
At the premiere event in Los Angeles on July 14th, Gellar, 48, was seen supporting her husband Freddie Prinze Jr., 49, on the red carpet for the debut of the latest installment in the series. Whilst Prinze and Hewitt reprised their roles from the first movie, Gellar and Phillippe’s characters did not survive in the original film. Despite this, Prinze and Hewitt did return for the 1998 sequel, “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer”.
Following the event, fans noticed the absence of any photos showing Gellar and Hewitt together and took to social media to question this. In response, Gellar took to Instagram to address the matter, explaining, “I never got to see Jennifer Love Hewitt, who is fantastic in the movie. I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately, JLH didn’t come to the after party.” She further elaborated on the chaos of such events, stating, “If you have ever been to one of these it’s crazy. I sadly didn’t get pics with most of the cast.”
The actress continued to express her admiration for her former colleagues, emphasizing that not having photos together does not diminish her respect for them. Additionally, Gellar’s post about the premiere on Instagram did not include any photos or mention of Hewitt, further adding to the speculation surrounding their relationship.
Gellar and Prinze, who also starred together in the live-action “Scooby-Doo” movies, have been married since 2002 and share two children. This incident is not the first time that Gellar’s relationship with Hewitt has been under scrutiny. In December 2024, reports emerged about a supposed feud between the two actresses, which both parties have since denied.
Both Hewitt and Prinze have recently spoken about their experience reuniting for the new sequel. Hewitt described the reunion with Prinze as feeling like a high school reunion, with a mix of nerves and excitement. Prinze echoed this sentiment, expressing trust and admiration for Hewitt’s dedication to her character.
“I Know What You Did Last Summer” is set to hit theatres on July 18th, prompting excitement among fans of the franchise. The on-screen chemistry between the original cast members continues to be a point of interest for audiences eagerly anticipating the new instalment. It seems that despite the lack of photos together, the camaraderie between the cast remains intact.
