Woman Places Puzzling Food Delivery Order While Sleepwalking
Miranda Knowles, a resident of British Columbia, woke up one morning to a surprising discovery – she had spent $8 on a food delivery the night before. What made this situation even more bizarre was the fact that she had no recollection of placing an order and initially found no evidence of a delivery at her doorstep. All she had to go on was an email confirmation for the delivery. However, the photo in the email did not reveal any food bag left at her door. To her amazement, she eventually found a solitary packet of honey mustard sauce that had been delivered.
Upon reviewing the security camera footage from the previous night, Knowles unravelled the mystery behind her midnight escapade. It turned out that she had been sleepwalking when she made the delivery order. Knowles, who has been a lifelong sleepwalker, shared that such nocturnal activities occur up to 10 times a month for her. From cleaning and crafting to preparing food and doing laundry, she is no stranger to engaging in various tasks while asleep. Knowles acknowledged that factors like consuming caffeine or experiencing stress tend to trigger her sleepwalking episodes.
Interestingly, her recent sleepwalking episodes have revolved around placing delivery orders. Knowles confessed to randomly DoorDashing items like onion rings or a single bottle of Coke, despite not even being a consumer of the beverage. These peculiar incidents led to her waking up to email notifications or finding cold food bags at her doorstep when leaving for work. Despite the seemingly nonsensical nature of her orders, Knowles was taken aback when a delivery person arrived at her home solely to deliver a sauce packet in the middle of the night.
In a light-hearted TikTok video that garnered over 4.5 million views, Knowles shared the security footage of the peculiar delivery, humourously captioning it with, “POV you DoorDashed a single honey mustard sauce while sleepwalking at 12:43 am for $8.” Even though the incident was amusing to her, she mentioned that it was not the most extreme occurrence stemming from her sleepwalking tendencies. Knowles revealed that she had previously ventured outside in the dead of night, emptied the entire fridge, or even taken an unplanned bath during her sleepwalking episodes.
Sleepwalking, classified as a disorder of arousal that occurs during deep sleep stages, can be influenced by factors such as inadequate sleep, stress, or disruptions in sleep patterns. Despite the challenges posed by her condition, Knowles shared that she has learned to manage it by reducing stressors in her life. Transitioning from a high-stress job as an emergency room nurse to a less demanding role has notably diminished the frequency of her sleepwalking incidents.
While Knowles’ quirky sleepwalking tales may evoke a chuckle, they shed light on the complexities of navigating life with a sleep disorder. Her experience serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding and addressing such conditions to ensure optimal well-being.
