Paul Simon’s daughter, Lulu Simon, has taken to social media to express her disappointment and anger towards actor Richard Gere. Gere recently sold Lulu’s childhood home to developers, who are set to demolish the property and replace it with nine new homes. The property, located in New Canaan, Connecticut, was originally purchased by Gere and his wife, Alejandra, from Lulu’s famous parents, Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, in 2022 for $10.8 million.
According to Lulu, Gere had made promises to her family to “take care of the land” as a condition of his purchase of the property. However, in 2024, Gere sold the house for $10.75 million, leading to its impending demolition for the development of a new housing project. Lulu expressed her frustration on her Instagram Stories, stating, “He bought my childhood home…Promised he would take care of the land as condition of his purchase. Proceeded to never actually move in & just sold it to a developer as 9 separate plots :).” She further added, “Hate! Him!”
Representatives for Gere have not responded to requests for comment on the matter. In a series of Instagram Stories, Lulu also shared her strong sentiments towards Gere, expressing her hopes that the memory of her deceased pets buried in the backyard of the property would haunt him. Despite the emotional post, there has been no public response from Gere or his representatives regarding the situation.
After two years of owning the property, Gere and his family sold the estate in October 2024. Following the sale, plans were announced to demolish the historic 1930s home and develop nine separate properties on the site. Gere and his wife, Alejandra, had already moved to Madrid, Spain, to be closer to her family, including their two young sons, Alexander and James.
While the property is set for demolition, efforts have been made to salvage some of its architectural elements. Salvage experts from Hudson Valley House Parts have been working on extracting valuable pieces from the home to repurpose them. The company shared insights into the process on social media, showcasing the historical significance of the property and the measures taken to preserve its heritage.
Despite the property being torn down, Alejandra has mentioned plans to move back to the United States in the coming years. The sale of the property and its subsequent demolition have stirred a mix of emotions, with fans and followers closely monitoring the developments surrounding the iconic estate. The story paints a picture of the complexities of celebrity ownership and the sentimental value attached to childhood homes, shedding light on the personal connections individuals have with their past residences.
