German prosecutors have brought charges against a Syrian teenager, identified as Mohammad A., for his involvement in a thwarted terrorist plot targeting Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert in Vienna. According to the prosecutor general’s press release, Mohammad A. is accused of supporting a foreign terrorist organisation and planning a serious act of violence. The statement revealed that Mohammad A. had embraced the ideology of the Islamic State (IS) since at least April 2024.
Authorities disclosed that between mid-July and August 2024, Mohammad A. communicated with a young Austrian individual who was plotting a bomb attack at Taylor Swift’s concert. The teenager allegedly assisted in translating bomb-building instructions from Arabic, facilitated online contact with an IS member, and provided the Austrian with the text required to pledge allegiance to IS. Despite the charges, the suspect is not currently in custody.
