Brooke Johnson embarked on an extraordinary journey this summer, with the goal of becoming the first woman to skateboard across the United States. What started as a personal adventure a few years ago, skateboarding from Los Angeles to Mexico, evolved into a much grander idea of crossing the entire country. Inspired by her stepfather’s strength and resilience after a tragic accident that left him quadriplegic, Brooke found a profound purpose for her ambitious quest.

The tragic fall that her stepfather, Roger, suffered became a catalyst for Brooke’s decision to skateboard across America in his honour. She had promised Roger that she would raise funds for his recovery by undertaking this monumental challenge. Despite the heartbreaking loss of Roger before the journey could commence, Brooke remained committed to fulfilling her promise. She sought sponsors and formed a partnership with Playtex to support her as she set out to make history.

Setting off from Santa Monica, Brooke and her small crew, travelling in a support van that also served as their mobile home, headed towards New York City, covering a remarkable distance of 3,000 miles. Along the way, they encountered various challenges, but Brooke’s determination and resilience remained unwavering. Her mission was not just about breaking records but also about inspiring a generation of women to believe in their capabilities and strive towards achieving their dreams.
