Kristin Cavallari Opens Up about Drug Use Allegations on The Hills
Reality TV star Kristin Cavallari recently took a walk down memory lane, reflecting on her past experiences in the spotlight. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE as part of their ‘Reality Rewatch’ series, Cavallari delved into some of the most significant moments of her reality television career.
Cavallari gained fame on MTV’s shows “Laguna Beach” and “The Hills.” She became embroiled in a particularly challenging situation during her time on The Hills when her castmates accused her of drug use, a rumour and storyline she described as “unfair.”
The 38-year-old reality veteran first graced screens in 2004 on Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. She then transitioned to The Hills in season 5, joining the show in 2009 after the departure of her castmate Lauren Conrad. Cavallari continued with the series until its final season. In 2018, she made a return to reality TV with “Very Cavallari,” and she is now back on screen with E!’s “Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour,” which follows a live tour of her podcast.
During the interview, Cavallari candidly discussed a pivotal moment from The Hills season 6 premiere, where her castmates confronted her with serious rumours circulating about her alleged drug use. She revealed that a producer incentivised the girls with a Birkin bag to confront her on camera about the accusations.
Expressing her frustration, Cavallari stated, “I just felt like that was really unfair. It got really messy. All of our lawyers got involved. I threatened to quit the show at one point. It was just really bad. And I was a young kid. I’m not saying I was perfect.”
Despite the challenging ordeal, Cavallari acknowledged her growth and self-reflection, sharing, “It took me years to actually take a hard look in the mirror and realise what I could have done differently to avoid that. For years, I blamed other people. And finally when I could take accountability and ownership for that is when I could free myself from it.”
In a previous interview in May, Cavallari discussed her decision to return to reality TV with E!’s “Honestly Cavallari.” She expressed her surprise at enjoying the experience, noting, “The only show that I’ve done where I can say it was 100% authentic. It was real. It was the most real show I’ve ever done, and that was a really enjoyable experience.”
Cavallari’s show “Honestly Cavallari” airs on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on E!, providing viewers with a close-up look at her life and experiences following her reality TV journey.
