At least three people have tragically lost their lives in Enderlin, North Dakota, following a devastating tornado that ripped through the small city on Friday, June 20. The victims, identified as two men and one woman, were well-known to local first responders, according to statements from authorities. The severe weather not only caused havoc in Enderlin but also impacted other areas in North Dakota and Minnesota.

The somber news emerged after the Cass County Sheriff’s Office dispatched police to a residence in Enderlin around 11:40 p.m. Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement was informed by the Enderlin Fire Department about the discovery of two deceased individuals. Subsequently, fire officials were directed to another location where a third victim was found amidst the devastation. The scenes painted a picture of extensive damage, prompting deputies to conduct welfare checks on residents in the area.

During a press conference on Saturday, June 21, Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner revealed that the deceased individuals were all adults, with two being men and one being a woman. Moreover, it was noted that local fire officials were quick to respond to the distress calls while the storm was still active and that they were intimately familiar with the victims. Jon Anderson, the Chief of the Enderlin Sheldon Fire Department, added that around 10 homes in the vicinity had been destroyed by the tornado.

The destructive path of the storms was not confined to North Dakota, as parts of Minnesota also bore the brunt of the extreme weather. According to a press release from the Beltrami County Emergency Management Office shared on Facebook, the city experienced significant damage, including widespread power outages and blocked roads. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in Minnesota at the time of the statement.
In the aftermath of the calamity, responses from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Enderlin Sheldon Fire Department, and the Beltrami County Emergency Management Office were sought. However, immediate responses were not forthcoming. As utility companies worked to restore power, approximately 20,700 people in North Dakota and 21,000 in Minnesota were left without electricity in the wake of the destructive tornado.
