Henry Ruggs III, a former NFL player, has extended his apologies to the family of the woman tragically killed in a car crash he caused in November 2021. Ruggs, who was a wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders at the time of the accident, pleaded guilty and was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison in May 2023.

During a speech at a Hope for Prisoners event in Las Vegas, Ruggs addressed the family of Tina Tintor, the 23-year-old woman who lost her life in the crash. In a video shared on social media by ESPN and The Las Vegas Review-Journal, Ruggs expressed deep remorse, stating, “One, I wish I could turn back the hands of time.” He acknowledged the impact of his actions, lamenting that his face being constantly in the news serves as a painful reminder for the family.

The tragic incident occurred on November 2, 2021, when Ruggs, allegedly driving at 156 mph under the influence, collided with Tintor’s vehicle near Spring Valley Parkway in Las Vegas. The crash resulted in a fire that claimed the lives of Tintor and her 3-year-old dog, Max. Ruggs’s girlfriend, Je’nai Kilgo-Washington, who shares a child with him, was with him during the accident.
Ruggs faced serious legal consequences as he refused a field sobriety test at the scene and was found to have a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s report. Subsequently, he pleaded guilty to DUI resulting in death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in May 2023, leading to his three-year prison sentence.
Tintor’s family, through their attorney Farhan Naqvi, described her as “the light of her parents’ life” and expressed the profound devastation caused by her untimely death. The family highlighted the central role family played in Tintor’s life, making the loss even more incomprehensible.
The repercussions of Ruggs’s actions extend beyond legal consequences, impacting multiple lives and serving as a stark reminder of the devastating effects of driving under the influence. The apology offered by Ruggs at the event signifies a step towards acknowledging the gravity of the situation and taking accountability for the irreversible loss experienced by Tintor’s family.
As an ex-NFL player, Ruggs’s case underscores the importance of responsible and safe behaviour, especially considering the potential consequences of reckless decisions. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the tragedies that can unfold due to impaired driving and the profound impact on families and communities.
While expressing remorse and seeking forgiveness is a critical step in the aftermath of such incidents, the journey towards healing and reconciliation is complex and may take time. The public apology by Ruggs sheds light on the ongoing repercussions of his actions and emphasises the need for awareness and accountability in preventing similar tragedies in the future.
In a poignant reflection on the consequences of his actions, Ruggs’s apology to Tintor’s family serves as a reminder of the far-reaching impact of such incidents and the importance of reflecting on personal responsibility in ensuring community safety and well-being. As the legal proceedings continue and the family mourns their loss, the aftermath of the tragic crash underscores the need for vigilance and responsibility on and off the field.
