Gold coins, jewellery, and cigarette cases with a total value of over $341,000 were found by two hikers in the Czech Republic. The treasured items were discovered hidden in a man-made wall in an overgrown field during their rural hike. The Museum of East Bohemia revealed that the hikers stumbled upon the treasure in two separate containers and handed it over to the local museum. The tourists who made this remarkable discovery found the gold coins, bracelets, and cigarette cases inside the containers. The items weighed a total of 15 lbs and were carefully tucked away in the wall. The museum highlighted that the hikers began their investigation of the wall when they noticed an aluminum can protruding above the surface of a shaft. Upon examination, they found 598 gold coins neatly arranged in columns and wrapped in black fabric, alongside bracelets and other valuables in a nearby metal box.
Miroslav Novák, the Head of the Archaeological Department at the museum, emphasised the rarity of finding such a substantial amount of precious metals hidden in such a manner in relatively recent times. Notably, many of the coins discovered dated back to the early 19th and 20th centuries, originating from countries such as France, Austria-Hungary, Belgium, and the Ottoman Empire. The coins and artefacts were estimated to be valued at around $341,000, according to local news reports.
