The renowned actress, known for her roles in films like “Cruel Intentions” and “Legally Blonde,” received the diagnosis of the chronic immune disease in August 2018, but chose to keep it private until the following January. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the PHM Healthfront 2025 event on April 30th, Blair shared her perspective on the diagnosis.

Blair expressed how the revelation of her condition lifted a weight off her shoulders, contrary to what some may have assumed. She explained, “It’s so funny. I felt like people thought it had to be some tragic thing, but I was like, ‘No, you don’t understand.’” Blair continued, highlighting her internal struggles before the diagnosis, where she questioned her own well-being compared to others and the challenges she faced.
For Blair, the diagnosis was a validation of her experiences and symptoms. She shared that finally understanding what she was dealing with made her feel “so happy.” With relapsing MS, symptoms can come and go, leading to a sense of uncertainty and frustration. The actress emphasised the importance of being able to confirm her struggles and experiences, even when they may not always be visible to others.
Having lived with symptoms that often went unnoticed or misunderstood, Blair reflected on the years it took for her to fully comprehend and accept her diagnosis. She highlighted the internal conflict she faced, feeling like her reality was often questioned or dismissed, leading to a sense of isolation. Blair’s journey serves as a reminder of the complexities individuals may face when dealing with chronic illnesses.
Despite the challenges, Blair remains optimistic about her future. She shared that while she is not afraid of death, her curiosity and desire to connect with others who share similar experiences drive her forward. By participating in events like The Daily Front Row’s Fashion Los Angeles Awards and collaborating with SurvivorNet to raise awareness for various health conditions, Blair continues to advocate for understanding and empathy.
Blair’s story sheds light on the importance of sharing experiences and finding strength in vulnerability. Her journey with MS has not only impacted her outlook on life but has also inspired others to embrace their own stories and seek support.
