A former Pennsylvania contractor found residing inside a bridge has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of 35-year-old Joshua Daywalt. Roger Gosson, 62, was taken into custody on Tuesday, April 29, following the discovery of Daywalt’s body floating in the Schuylkill River earlier this year.

Joshua Daywalt was found in the river on Feb. 7 after authorities responded to reports of a body near Kelly Drive and Midvale Avenue. The Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Daywalt had died from a single gunshot wound behind his right ear, with a possible graze wound to the lower back of his head. His death was ruled a homicide, prompting police to offer a $20,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the perpetrator.

Gosson was apprehended after reports came in about a man living inside the Green Lane Bridge. Upon investigation, law enforcement officers found a tent fully equipped with electricity within the bridge, along with a firearm. According to ABC Philadelphia, Joe Antonini, an acquaintance of Gosson, mentioned that the suspect had faced significant personal challenges, losing his company and belongings, ultimately leading him to live on the streets.

Daywalt’s mother, Jennifer, revealed to ABC Philadelphia that her son had been battling mental health issues. She expressed regret that they were unable to provide the necessary support to help stabilize him. Jennifer highlighted that Joshua was a normal and happy individual, but mental illness had tragically taken over his life.

Roger Gosson is currently being held without bail at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility as the legal proceedings continue.
