Prom Date Honours Slain Teen by Wearing Dress with His Photo On
In a heartwarming gesture of remembrance and respect, a prom date emotionally honoured a slain teen by wearing a bespoke dress featuring his photo. The touching tribute left the teen’s mother in tears, showcasing the enduring impact he had on those around him.
Justin Etienne, an 18-year-old student at Salem High School, tragically lost his life in March 2025 when he was shot at Denny Dobbs Park in Newton County, Ga. while celebrating his Senior Skip Day. Following the devastating incident, Tierra Neil, Etienne’s mother, ensured that his prom date, Reyaa, was given a corsage on his behalf.
The poignant moment between Neil and Reyaa was captured in a moving video shared on Instagram, depicting the deep emotions and connections forged in the wake of Etienne’s passing. Reyaa’s decision to wear a dress adorned with Etienne’s photo symbolised a powerful act of remembrance, evoking a strong emotional response from his grieving mother.
The video, which has garnered widespread praise online for its portrayal of community support and unity, serves as a testament to the profound impact Etienne had on those around him. Shared on the Instagram account @justice_4justin, managed by one of Etienne’s family members, the caption expressed condolences to all families mourning the loss of loved ones, underscoring the enduring legacy of love and connection that transcends tragedy.
Reyaa’s light pink asymmetrical gown, intricately designed by her uncle Kyle Robertson, featured a striking train and complemented her hair adorned with bejewelled pins. In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Reyaa reflected on the memorable prom night, expressing gratitude for the support and encouragement she received in honouring Etienne’s memory.
Reflecting on the profound impact of her son’s untimely death, Neil emphasised the promising future that was tragically cut short. Despite the pain of losing her child, Neil shared her son’s aspirations for graduation and college, highlighting the void left by his absence.
Devastated by the loss of their beloved son, Etienne’s family is seeking justice for him through the legal system. The suspect, Jarvis Hinton Jr., a 16-year-old from Covington, Georgia, is facing multiple charges, including murder and aggravated assault. Etienne’s father, Hugh Neil, lamented the loss of his son’s bright future, recalling his son’s positive attitude and ambitious goals.
As the community mourns the loss of a young life filled with potential, the emotional tribute at prom serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring impact of Justin Etienne’s legacy. Through acts of remembrance and solidarity, those left behind honour his memory and continue to seek justice for his tragic passing.
