Virginia Giuffre’s Family Speaks Out About Her Suicide at 41 (Exclusive)
Virginia Giuffre’s family has broken their silence in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE following her tragic death. Virginia, who was well-known for accusing convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, passed away by suicide at the age of 41.
Described by her sister-in-law, Amanda Roberts, as “one of the most beautiful souls you would ever have the chance to meet,” Virginia dedicated her life to seeking justice for herself and other victims of sexual abuse. However, the relentless battle for justice may have taken a heavy toll on her mental well-being, leading to her untimely demise.
Amanda Roberts emotionally expressed to PEOPLE, “The world lost a fierce warrior. She wished for all survivors to get justice. That is who she was.” Virginia, who courageously spoke out against Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, was found at a farm in the Neergabby area outside of Perth, Australia, where she had been residing for several years.
The loss of Virginia has left her family devastated, with Amanda tearfully sharing, “We lost our sister. Her children lost their mother, and her mother lost her daughter.” Despite Virginia’s resilient spirit, it appears that the weight of her experiences became too overwhelming to bear.
Following the discovery of an unresponsive 41-year-old at her residence in Neergabby, emergency services were called to the scene. Despite their efforts, Virginia could not be revived. Authorities have stated that, at present, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her passing, with Major Crime detectives actively investigating the case.
Prior to her death, Virginia had shared concerning posts on social media, detailing a near-fatal car accident and allegations of physical abuse by her husband, Robert Giuffre. The complexities of her personal struggles, including reported marital issues and domestic violence, shed light on the deep-rooted trauma she may have endured throughout her life.
Amanda reflected on Virginia’s enduring pain, stating, “When you go through what she’s been through her entire life, it’s not over when the court case is over. You are still fighting for the rest of your life.” She highlighted the ongoing battle against physical and mental anguish, emphasising the relentless burden Virginia carried until her final moments.
Virginia’s tragic passing serves as a poignant reminder of the long-lasting impact of trauma and the importance of mental health support for survivors. As her family grieves the loss of a beloved daughter, mother, and advocate, they have pledged to honour Virginia’s legacy by continuing her advocacy for survivors of sexual assault through the organisation she founded, Speak Out, Act, Reclaim (SOAR).
In the wake of this heartbreaking event, Amanda and her family remain steadfast in their commitment to upholding Virginia’s mission and supporting survivors worldwide. Virginia’s courageous fight for justice and unwavering spirit will forever be remembered, underscoring the urgent need for greater awareness and compassion towards those battling their inner demons.
