1 Dead, 2 Others Injured After Purdue University’s Mascot Train Involved in Fatal Crash

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) has indicated that a “tire malfunction” may have been the cause of the accident, leading the vehicle to cross the median and collide with a passenger vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. The TCSO is currently investigating any additional mechanical issues that could be related to the crash, with assistance from the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Division.

The Boilermaker Special, which is Purdue University’s official mascot, is designed in the likeness of a Victorian-era steam locomotive and is used to travel to away games for the university’s football team.
