The Thornton Police Department confirmed that a 17-year-old boy crashed his BMW into Brian’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle as they were returning from Brooklyn’s volleyball practice. Despite efforts to save Brooklyn with CPR, she could not be revived, while Brian, valiantly, kept telling officers to call his wife until his last breath.

Brooklyn was placed on life support at Children’s Hospital but due to severe brain swelling caused by the impact, she was taken off life support on April 22. Devin bravely shared the challenging decision to donate Brooklyn’s organs through Donor Alliance, allowing her to continue helping others, even after her passing.

The driver of the vehicle responsible for the crash, whose identity remains undisclosed, was arrested on suspicion of careless driving resulting in death but has since been released pending further investigations. Devin expressed understanding towards the young driver stating, “I know that this kid didn’t set out to destroy my family, but he didn’t see them. People have to look for bikes”. Amidst the grief and pain, Devin shared fond memories of her husband, a retired firefighter who found immense joy in singing, dancing, and being a father figure to her children.
