New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) made a major announcement on their official day. Establishing April 24 as ‘New Kids on the Block Day’ in 1989, former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis honoured the band. On this iconic day, NKOTB declared the launch of a special 35th-anniversary reissue of their beloved 1990 album, Step by Step. The reissued edition is set to include unreleased songs, new remixes, live tracks, and exclusive behind-the-scenes materials. With members Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, and brothers Jonathan and Jordan Knight, NKOTB soared to fame after dropping their breakthrough album ‘Hangin’ Tough’ in 1998.
Regarding the album’s significance, Danny Wood shared with PEOPLE that although ‘Hangin’ Tough’ often steals the spotlight, ‘Step by Step’ holds a special place for the band. The album, available for pre-order and scheduled for release on June 13, housed chart-topping singles like “Tonight” and the title track “Step by Step” which the band instantly recognised as a hit. This recognition came even before they recorded it, as the song was initially intended for another local Boston group but eventually found its rightful place with NKOTB.
Recording ‘Step by Step’ proved pivotal for the band’s artistic growth, with Jordan Knight reflecting on the creative opportunities the album provided. Expanding their musical horizons while on tour, the band faced a whirlwind experience of learning and self-discovery. Additionally, the album marked Jonathan Knight’s debut lead performance on the song “Happy Birthday,” a track that still resonates with fans today.
In conjunction with the album reissue, NKOTB is set to launch a collaboration with the Calm app, introducing a sleep story named “Step By Step To Sleep.” The bandmates share soothing tales, sprinkle in fan Easter eggs, and offer sleep-enhancing tips for a peaceful slumber. The members have found the sleep advice surprisingly effective, with Jordan noting personal benefits from adopting some of the suggested practices.
Anticipation mounts as NKOTB prepares for their debut Las Vegas residency this summer titled “The Right Stuff,” named after their hit song from 1988. Scheduled to run from June 20 to July 5, November 1 to 15 in 2025, and February 14 to 28 in 2026, the residency will be hosted at Dolby Live at Park MGM. The band foresees a shift in performance dynamics, embracing the upscale and alluring atmosphere Vegas offers. Joey McIntyre expressed excitement for the unconventional show, promising an unforgettable experience for fans.
Acknowledging the collaborative effort in show production, Jordan Knight discussed the band’s creative process, emphasizing the importance of weaving together a seamless performance akin to crafting a gripping narrative. Their Las Vegas extravaganza will feature additional events and activations to enhance the residency experience. Among these are plans for Block-E’s Clubhouse at Double Barrel Roadhouse, serving as an NKOTB museum with live entertainment, themed food and drinks, alongside appearances by the band.
Moreover, after-parties are slated for June 21, June 28, and July 5 at On the Record Speakeasy inside Park MGM, promising an immersive experience for fans. Maintained by Donnie, these celebrations are expected to be an energetic affair where fans and band members unite in revelry. NKOTB’s Las Vegas residency represents a new chapter for the band, offering an exclusive opportunity to engage with their devoted followers and celebrate their enduring legacy.
