Michael B. Jordan, the acclaimed actor, recently expressed his strong opinion on the use of fake blood in his latest film ‘Sinners’. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Jordan revealed his true feelings towards the excessive amount of fake blood used in the production, describing it as “disgusting”. The actor, known for his roles in films like ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Creed’, stars in ‘Sinners’ as twins Smoke and Stack in a vampire thriller set in the 1930s.
According to director Ryan Coogler, there was a moment during filming when producers had to call for an emergency meeting to address Jordan’s discomfort with the copious amounts of fake blood required for certain scenes. Coogler shared that while Jordan appreciated the fangs, he found the blood to be messy and uncomfortable. The actor himself clarified that he was merely venting his feelings rather than outright complaining. “First of all, there’s a difference between complaining and venting. I was just more venting, you know what I’m saying? But they care about me, so they had a meeting. I appreciate the meeting,” Jordan explained.
Despite his aversion to horror movies, Jordan took on the challenge of ‘Sinners’ to expand his acting repertoire. Collaborating with real-life twins for his dual performance, the actor aimed to immerse himself in the genre and overcome his fear of horror films. Co-stars Hailee Steinfeld and Wunmi Mosaku also shared their experiences with the fake blood on set, highlighting the discomfort and challenges they faced during filming. Mosaku mentioned that working with the special effects team and being covered in fake blood was a particularly messy affair.
Filmed in New Orleans and surrounding areas, ‘Sinners’ presented additional challenges due to the high temperatures during production. Mosaku praised Jordan for his professionalism and ability to stay focused, even in trying conditions. She mentioned, “What I learned from Michael was he doesn’t complain. He would just kind of be very still in his very thick suits — very thick, very hot. He would be like, ‘There’s nothing we can do to change it, so let’s just kind of push through,’ because the complaining brings you down a little bit.” Despite the tough conditions, the cast and crew persevered to bring the vampire thriller to life on the big screen.
‘Sinners’ delves into the world of vampires in a unique setting, offering a fresh take on the horror genre. The film’s production values and attention to detail have garnered praise from audiences and critics alike. With Jordan’s compelling dual performance and the dedication of the cast and crew, ‘Sinners’ promises a thrilling cinematic experience for viewers. As the film continues to captivate audiences, Michael B. Jordan’s commitment to his craft and willingness to push boundaries shines through, making him a standout in the world of cinema.
