Man, 84, Killed After XL Bully Attack in United Kingdom

An 84-year-old man tragically passed away after sustaining injuries from an attack by a dog that escaped from a nearby residence in Warrington, England. The incident, involving what is believed to be an XL Bully breed, occurred on February 24. The Cheshire Constabulary reported that the man succumbed to his injuries on March 30, a month after the brutal attack.
Detective Inspector Simon Mills expressed condolences, stating, “This was a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family of the victim at this difficult time.” Despite the victim’s valiant fight against his injuries with the support of specialist medical teams, he could not overcome the severity of the wounds sustained in the dog attack.
Authorities responded to the scene by firing 19 shots to eliminate two dogs involved in the attack, while a third smaller dog was seized for further investigation. Subsequently, a 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with owning a dog that was dangerously out of control and caused serious injury, along with two counts related to the possession or custody of a dog.
In response to the incident, Chief Constable Mark Roberts of the Cheshire Constabulary highlighted the dangers posed by such dogs, stating, “These dogs are like weapons; their physical attributes can make it like owning a loaded firearm with a questionable safety catch.” Another individual, a 29-year-old woman, was also arrested in connection with the attack and released on conditional bail pending further inquiries by the authorities.
