Elon Musk Cuts Financial Support Amid Custody Battle with Ashley St. Clair
Tesla CEO Elon Musk is reportedly reducing financial support for his 1-year-old son following a custody battle with author Ashley St. Clair, according to St. Clair’s legal team. St. Clair, 26, had filed a petition for custody with the New York Supreme Court in February, alleging that Musk, 53, has retaliated financially against their child after she took legal action.
In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, St. Clair’s attorneys at Karen Rosenthal, Bikel Rosenthal & Schanfield LLP, claimed that Musk unilaterally decreased his financial support for his child. They alleged that Musk took this action after St. Clair resorted to legal proceedings, as he had not responded to her attempts to resolve the matter privately. Despite this, a representative for Musk did not provide a comment on the situation.
The legal battle escalated further when Musk filed an emergency application to prevent St. Clair from discussing the custody issues publicly. However, the application was denied by the judge overseeing the case. St. Clair’s legal team highlighted the irony of Musk’s actions, citing his advocacy for transparency in government while attempting to silence St. Clair.
Following the custody petition, Musk was ordered to appear in a New York City court to address the custody and paternity issues. St. Clair alleged in her filing that Musk had minimal involvement in their son’s life and had only met him a few times since his birth in September 2024. The court was also considering whether Musk should pay child support to St. Clair.
Despite the court orders, Musk had reportedly not accepted the legal filings personally or through his attorneys at the time of the statement. St. Clair’s attorney expressed frustration at the delays caused by Musk’s lack of response, emphasizing the unnecessary distress caused by the situation, especially with an infant involved.
St. Clair, a conservative influencer, publicly disclosed her relationship with Musk in February, revealing that they have a child together. She emphasised the need for privacy and safety for their child amidst media attention. Musk, who has multiple children from previous relationships, including with singer Grimes, has a complex family dynamic with various children across different relationships.
The ongoing custody battle between Musk and St. Clair continues to unfold in the legal arena, with both parties presenting their arguments regarding custody, paternity, and financial support. The case highlights the complexities that can arise in co-parenting arrangements, especially when high-profile individuals are involved, and underscores the importance of legal processes to resolve such disputes.
