A heartbreaking story emerged as Sammy and John Knowles shared the devastating loss of their 4-year-old son, Jaxon, who passed away suddenly from meningitis. The Knowles family is now dedicated to raising awareness about this deadly disease and raising funds for research in honour of their beloved son.

Jaxon was described as a “miracle baby” by his parents, as he was born after seven years of trying and five rounds of IVF. He was their last hope of having children, making his passing on February 17 due to meningococcal disease even more tragic.

The family recounted their final moments with Jaxon, revealing that he started showing symptoms of illness after a weekend trip to Blackpool. Initially complaining of arm and stomach pain, Jaxon’s health rapidly deteriorated, and he developed a rash that led his parents to seek medical help.
Despite their efforts to care for Jaxon at home, his condition worsened, and he was eventually rushed to the hospital. Doctors fought to save him, but unfortunately, Jaxon lost his battle with meningitis, leaving his family in shock and disbelief.
Meningococcal disease, caused by the bacteria Neisseria meningitidis, is a severe infection that attacks the brain and spinal cord lining. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns that the disease can be life-threatening, with a 10% fatality rate reported by Meningitis Now charity.
In the wake of their devastating loss, the Knowles family has launched the Jaxon Knowles Forever Fund to raise awareness and support research on meningitis. Their fundraising efforts have already garnered over £13,000, demonstrating the widespread impact of Jaxon’s story.
Sammy Knowles shared her hope that with more funding and research, future advancements in meningitis prevention and treatment can be achieved. The family is determined to honour Jaxon’s memory by ensuring that other families do not have to endure the pain they have experienced.
The tragic loss of young Jaxon has not only devastated his family but also served as a stark reminder of the importance of disease awareness and research funding. The Knowles’ dedication to raising awareness about meningitis stands as a testament to the enduring love they have for their son and their commitment to preventing similar tragedies in the future.
